Opera for Dessert this Sundae?
OPERA FOR DESSERT THIS SUNDAE?
Milwaukee, WI – Sunday afternoon, the MacDowell Club of Milwaukee offers a smorgasbord of sundaes with its concert of “Operatic Options”. Starting at 3 o’clock,
over a dozen musicians from the Milwaukee area will perform arias from almost a dozen of the world’s most famous composers. The program, at the Steinway Piano Gallery, 11550 West North Avenue in Wauwatosa.
Soprano Enid Bootzin Berkovits of Mequon is one of the soloists. She will sing "The Bell Song" and "Barcarole" from the opera, Lakme, by Delibes. Ms. Berkovits earned a bachelor's degree in music therapy from Alverno College and did post-graduate study at Northwestern University and DePaul University in choral conducting and arranging, opera theater, and voice performance. She has performed in recital and performances throughout the greater Milwaukee area and has directed church, synagogue, and community choirs since 1974. She is director and founding member of the Milwaukee Jewish Community Chorale.
Others singing solo arias and in various configurations on Sunday are Linda Ehlers (Milwaukee); Carol Haywood (Brown Deer); Julie Maurer (South Milwaukee); Judith Pilon (Wauwatosa); Donna Shriner (Shorewood); and Sally Lane Schwarz (Menomonee Falls).
Assisting their fellow members are flutist Linda Hartig (Waukesha); plus pianists Carla Coonan (Bayside); Shanti Daya (Brookfield); and accompanists Suzanne Pajunen and Geraldine Thien Stone (both of Wauwatosa). Guest soprani Carlie Beaudin (Bayside) and Rebecca Carvalho (South Milwaukee) will complete the ensemble numbers.

MacDowell Club presents a regular series of public programs by its Performing Members at various venues during the concert season. In addition, the Club gives occasional informal tea recitals in private homes exclusively for its members and their guests.
