‘PIONEERS OF TELEVISION’ FILM CREW TO SHOOT PIVITOL GENE RODDENBERRY SCENE AT THIENSVILLE RESTAURANT OCTOBER 28

Thiensville, WI – Wisconsin’s popularity as a Hollywood film location will once again be in evidence on Wednesday October 28 when a ‘Pioneers of Television’ film crew arrives at Shully’s Cuisine & Events, 146 Green Bay Road in Thiensville with filming scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Milwaukee producers Steven Boettcher and Michael Trinklein of BT Media are back to film the latest installment in their Emmy-nominated ‘Pioneers of Television’ series for PBS. The scene to be shot at Shully’s involves legendary television producer and ‘Star Trek’ creator, Gene Roddenberry.

“We’re looking forward to re-creating a dramatic scene that actually launched Gene Roddenberry’s career at a Los Angeles restaurant in 1957,’ explained Boettcher. “At the time, Mr. Roddenberry was a motorcycle cop with dreams of being a script writer. He came up with a very innovative way to get Hollywood agents to read his material and that’s what this scene is all about.”

The filming sequences will present compelling visuals including dozens of actors and actresses in period wardrobe, street scenes with vintage vehicles and a wide variety of props with elaborate period recreation.

“It’s very satisfying to be able to shoot this scene in Thiensville because all of the actors and film crew members are from the Milwaukee area,” added Trinklein. “There are many very talented people in Wisconsin and it’s a privilege to be able to shine the national spotlight on some of that talent in this fashion.”

Shully’s is a perfect location to film this historic event due to the age of the building, which dates back to 1860. An added benefit for BT Media is the fact that Shully’s café and party rooms are used for private events. They are not open to the public and the production crew can stage the 1957 re-enactment with no hindrances.

“My wife Beth and I have been proud owners of the building for 23 years,” said owner Scott Shully. “We have put in a lot of time and effort into this facility and we’re very excited that our building will be used to portray the iconic Los Angeles Cock n Bull restaurant and the launch of Gene Roddenberry’s illustrious ‘Star Trek’ career. “
