Newcastle Place Remains at Forefront of Memory Care with Addition of MemoryMinders Program

March 31, 2012

New program at Newcastle open to residents and the public

Mequon, Wis., March 26, 2012— Vibrant senior living community Newcastle Place, located in Mequon, will now host MemoryMinders, a memory enhancement program designed for individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and early memory loss. Program founder and Registered Nurse Jill Hoven will lead the program every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning March 27, 2012.

The goal of MemoryMinders is to help maintain memory and improve the quality of life for its participants. This unique social small group combines memory education and strategies with mentally stimulating activities, games and puzzles in an enjoyable, engaging environment.

The program also incorporates aerobic physical activity, a key component to maintaining mental health, as well as other activities such as chair yoga. Additionally, each session will feature a brain-healthy lunch prepared by the Newcastle Place dining staff including foods rich in key memory-support nutrients like folate and omega-3 fatty acids.

“Newcastle Place has been a longstanding local leader in memory support, and the addition of the MemoryMinders program will only serve to increase our positive impact,” said Jenni Spinelli, Sales and Admissions Director at the community. Spinelli brought the program to Newcastle Place as part of her continued effort to offer the most effective and up-to-date memory care and mental stimulation techniques available at the community.

MemoryMinders at Newcastle Place is open to both residents and members of the public who qualify for the program. Interested applicants must undergo an informal evaluation/interview process with Hoven to determine if the program offers a fit for their specific cognitive needs. “MemoryMinders is excited to expand our programming to Newcastle Place and better serve individuals with early memory loss in our community,” said Hoven.

“I’m thrilled that we will continue to be ahead of the curve in terms of memory care support,” said Spinelli. “The bottom line is that we are offering something to the community that it truly does need.”
