Hitt to lead defending state champion Homestead golfers
Medals in one meet, second in another
Though most of her teammates on the 2012 WIAA state championship team have graduated, Homestead golfer Anika Hitt is off to a fast start this early season.
She turned in a an 18-hole total of 71 at Washington County to earn medalist honors at the 24-team Pius XI Invitational on Aug. 15 and then the next day, shot an 18-hole score of 73, to take second by two shots in the Yahara Hills Invitational in Madison.
At the Pius XI meet, the rebuilding Highlanders did not have another score under 100 as veteran coach John Krueger is working with a largely new lineup.
Ironically, at the Pius meet, Hitt beat Green Bay Notre Dame's Jessie Staed by two shots only to have Staed turn around do the same thing to her at Yahara Hills.
Kathleen Cullen (105), Bella Barbiere (106), Kelly Kasper (111) and Abbey Schneeberger (116) also took part for the Highlanders at the Pius meet.
Also at that event, Whitefish Bay turned in a competitive top 10 team total of 367 as Clare Matkom (80), Caroline Matkom (91), Grace Wirth (95), Annie Letizia (101) and Sumer Koehn (106) led the way.
Also at that meet, Nicolet was led by Emily Murphy, who carded an 88 while Alysse Elko came in with a 104 and Rachel Rabenn 111.
Arrowhead won the team title with a 325 mark.
