Local youth wrestlers advance to state tournament

The Whitefish Bay and Nicolet Kids Wrestling Club sent seven athletes to the recent regional meet.

Austin Bay, Niles Bay Jr., Luke Lamont, Max Carlin, Parker Keckeisen, Ben Lehrmann and Brian Aronica competed in the regional at Lakeland College in Plymouth on March 14.

The top two place winners in each weight class advanced to the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation's State Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Friday and Saturday March 27-28.

State tournament qualifiers from the Bay/Nicolet club were Carlin, who was second at 80 pounds in the 14-15-year-old class and Keckeisen, who was second in the 75-pound, 10-11-year-old class.

Registration for adult tennis leagues ongoing

The United States Tennis Association league has opened up registration through March for the 2009 season that begins in May. The league is for all adult players 19 and older.

The league offers four divisions of competitive tennis at the community and state level: adult division (19+), senior division (50+), super senior division (60+) and mixed division (male/female, 19+).

Winners of the divisions advance to sectional and national competition and play against opponents similar in ability regardless of gender. More than 550,000 participants compete nationwide with around 10,000 participants coming from the Wisconsin District.

Green Bay Packers youth football camps set for summer

The Green Bay Packers are offering youth football camps throughout the area this summer.

The camps are week-long, non-contact, day camps.

Camps are designed for players ages 6-14 who will learn to run, throw, catch and defend. Camps are led by professional educators with supplemental instruction from former Packers such as John Anderson, Johnnie Gray, Larry Krause, Dexter McNabb, Bryce Paup, Paul Rudzinski, Bill Schroeder and others.

The camps offer comprehensive football skill instruction while maintaining a 10:1 student to instructor ratio.

The camps cost $325.

Overall, there are 12 camps this summer, including one at the Glendale Jewish Community Center, 6401 N. Santa Monica Drive, from Monday through Friday, July 20 to 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Homestead fall athletic orientation meeting set

Eighth-grade students who will be attending Homestead High School next fall are invited to an athletic orientation meeting Wednesday, April 1.

The meeting is for those intending to participate in any sport, including cheerleading and dance. Coaches representing all sports will be present to answer questions from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. At 7 p.m., in the auditorium, a presentation by activities director Charlie Gross will provide general information about the athletic program and the athletic registration process.

Baseball camps available at Nicolet High School

The Wisconsin Sports Academy is hosting a baseball camp at Nicolet High School for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 on Saturdays March 28, April 4, April 18 and April 25.

There will be three sessions - pitching, hitting and defense - available for all participants. Each session costs $80 or $225 for all three.

Athletes ages 7 to 11 will meet from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Athletes ages 12 to 15 will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt.

An opportunity for private, individual instruction is also available from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Sundays through April 26.

Instruction will focus on pitching and catching. The cost is $40 per lesson and will be open to the first four pitchers and catchers.
