Nicolet names Kozaczuk new football coach
'Consensus choice' says Athletic Director Krychowiak
Glendale - Brad Kozaczuk has been named Nicolet's new football coach.
Formerly the head coach at Fond du Lac and most recently an assistant at Oshkosh North, Kozaczuk was the "consensus choice" of the nine-person selection committee, Nicolet Athletic Director Kirk Krychowiak said.
"We had 26 applications, which we narrowed down to nine, and we interviewed five of them," Krychowiak said. "The list did get a little shorter when we told them that there was no full-time teaching position attached to the job.
"But Brad was just extremely impressive in the interviews."
Krychowiak said that Kozaczuk is applying for a separate teaching opening in the social studies department at Nicolet, though it is entirely unrelated to the coaching job.
Kozaczuk, the fourth Nicolet coach in four years who led Fond du Lac to the third round of the state playoffs one season, replaces Brian Sommers whose teaching position was the subject of budget concerns earlier this spring.
Sommers subsequently took a teaching and coaching position at University School-Milwaukee. He took the Knights to a competitive 3-6 record last year, their best mark in many seasons.
"We were excited about our candidates," Krychowiak said. "At the end, we had three legitimate choices, which we were all pleased about."
