Redeker, Kasle finalists in Nicolet

Pair will face off April 6 for School Board seat

Nicolet — Ellen Redeker and Joseph Kasle will advance to the spring election seeking one vacant seat on the Nicolet School Board. Member Mark Majeski did not seek re-election.

The pair were the top two vote-getters in a three-way race with Bruce Brocker.

Redeker, a newcomer to elected office, said she was thrilled with the results. She led the group with 507 votes.

"It doesn't seem like that many people voted in total, so I don't know what that means for the next election," she said.

Redeker earned many of her votes in Glendale, where she more than doubled the combined votes of Kasle and Brocker. They had 62 and 78 votes respectively. She also earned the most votes in River Hills and Kasle's hometown of Fox Point. Kasle was the top vote-getter in Bayside, 70 to her 58.

Kasle, who has been on the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School Board for six years, now serves as that board's president. He did not seek re-election at Maple Dale but rather chose to run for the Nicolet Board because his children are older. His youngest son will graduate from Maple Dale this year.

Redeker said a "very energetic group of core volunteers" helped her campaign.

"They worked very hard putting out yard signs, sending e-mails and distributing fliers," she said.

Kasle said that other than a couple e-mails he did not do much in the primary campaign.

"I need to figure out the next step, but whatever it is, I need to bring my game," he said.

Redeker, who lives in Glendale, likely had a lot of name recognition in the city because of her work on the Glendale River Hills School Foundation. She is a banker at The Private Bank, is married and has one son. She is concerned about providing a good education at Nicolet in a time of decreasing enrollment and reductions in the school budget.

Kasle, an insurance broker, is also married and has three sons. He is interested in serving on the Nicolet Board because he has sons in the school, believes in maintaining school excellence which in turn helps to keep up property values.

Board members serve three-year terms and earn $1,000 a year.
