Fire chief resigning for health reasons
North Shore Fire Department Chief David Berousek announced today that he will resign. Citing health reasons, Berousek said he is applying for a duty disability. Berousek will remain chief until the request is processed, likely leaving sometime in March.
With the departure of a deputy fire chief in June 2008, Berousek encouraged the Board of Directors to create two deputy positions in order to train his possible successors. Robert Whitaker and Andrew Harris now serve as deputies. The Fire Commission will name a successor for Berousek but is not bound by the succession plan.
Berousek came to the North Shore in 1991 as the deputy chief for what was then the Brown Deer Fire Department. He was sworn in as chief of the consolidated North Shore Fire Department in August 1995.

Five North Shore police departments are teaming up on a new blog that provides residents with the crime prevention and safety tips, and news about community service projects and events throughout the area.
