Bayside to be drug drop-off site
Details to be worked out; information will be sent to residents
Bayside — The Police Department will join several other North Shore communities and accept unwanted prescription and non-prescription drugs from residents for disposal beginning sometime in the new year.
Police Capt. Scott McConnell said the DEA has approved the village as a drop-off site.
"We have applied for grant funding to cover the officer's time needed for the program," Village Manager Andy Pederson told the Village Board on Dec. 17.
McConnell said the department is still working on its plan for the drop off but expects drugs will be accepted during normal daytime business hours Monday through Friday.
When the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District has its drug collection days during the course of the year, the drugs collected in Bayside will be taken to MMSD for disposal.
McConnell said residents will have to provide identification when they drop off the drugs. Pederson said more information would be sent to residents as soon as the plan is final.

Five North Shore police departments are teaming up on a new blog that provides residents with the crime prevention and safety tips, and news about community service projects and events throughout the area.
