Kristyn Webster of Brown Deer earned her bachelor's degrees in marketing and in corporate communications and public affairs cum laude from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, in May.

Anthony Aker of Brown Deer earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in August.

Danielle Levings of Whitefish Bay performed in the season opening show of the Iowa State University Theatre, "Noises Off," in September and October. She is a senior studying psychology at the university.

SCHOOLSCENE

The following North Shore children earned scholarships during the Greater Milwaukee Baroque Festival held in October on the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran College: Austin Cao of Mequon, second place in the piano division for grades nine to 12; Charlotte Trumble of Mequon, third place in the piano division for grades six to eight; Elena Deslongchamps of Whitefish Bay, third place in the piano division for grades kindergarten to five; Jubilee Hou of Fox Point, first place, Allen Hung of Glendale, second place, and Andy Hung of Glendale, third place, in the strings division for grades nine to 12; and Ian Wasserman of Whitefish Bay, second place in the strings division for grades six to eight. Honorable mention went to Michelle Tong and Andy Hung of Glendale in the piano division for grades nine to 12. The festival, in its fifth year, was presented for the first time by Musical Offering Ltd. About 60 students through grade 12 competed for trophies and scholarships.

SERVICENEWS

Air Force 2nd Lt. Michael Webster of Brown Deer received his aeronautical rating of combat systems officer in June. He was also honored with the Air Education Training Command Commander's Trophy and three other awards for excellence. Webster is stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, where he is training as a weapon systems officer.

YOURNEIGHBORS

Madeleine Kelly Lubar of Fox Point has been elected chair of the board of trustees of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. Lubar is a former practicing attorney and a community volunteer in the arts and education. She previously served as MIAD's vice chair and was co-founding chair, with her husband David, of the college's signature fundraising event, Creative Fusion. A trustee since 2006, she also served on the academic affairs committee. Other new officers include: Robert Mikulay of Whitefish Bay, vice chair, retired executive vice president of marketing at Miller Brewing Co. and MIAD trustee since 2006; and Jason Allen of Fox Point, treasurer, partner at Foley & Lardner and a MIAD trustee since 2008. Newly elected trustees are Matt Rinka of Shorewood, principal at Rinka Chung Architecture, and Jim Wiemer of Fox Point, vice president of creative and marketing strategies with DCI Marketing.
