Get the latest Brown Deer Road construction updates at http://www.bayside-wi.gov/bayside-government.cfm?id=131.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation continues preparations for the reconstruction of the Brown Deer Road bridge over Interstate-43. The Brown Deer Road bridge construction is expected to begin Monday, February 8 and continue through December.
Motorists should expect significant traffic backups throughout the construction zone, at the intersection of Brown Deer Road and Port Washington Road, as well as east of the intersection on Brown Deer Road west bound. If possible, motorists should modify travel patterns to avoid this area. Motorists are encouraged to use the Port Washington Road on/off ramps or Lake Drive as alternate routes. The Bayside Police Department will be assisting with traffic control.
Temporary stop lights are currently being installed on the east and west side of the bridge at the on/off ramps. Work will begin with the demolition of the west bound bridge. One lane in each direction on Brown Deer Road will remain open during the project. Over the course of the project there will be total freeway closures for demolition of the old bridge. Additional traffic restrictions will occur 9 am to 2 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 pm to 5 am Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 12 pm Fridays, and 10 pm to 8 am on weekends. There should be minimal disruption to I-43 traffic except for the total closures and installation of barriers north and south of the bridge which may cause some lane narrowing or spot closures.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will also be have both the Good Hope and Green Tree bridges over I-43 under construction as well. Questions regarding the construction on the Brown Deer Road bridge and interchange project can be sent to the Field Project Manager, Frank Rivera.

Parking, if needed, is available at Village Hall in the south parking lot. Have fun and safe sledding!
Please help keep the Village green by using the Environmental Corridor only for its intended purpose: as a dropâoff center for yard waste, oil and recycling materials. Recently, prohibited, unacceptable and hazardous materials have been dumped at the site. In response, the site’s hours have been modified and the center will temporarily be open Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3 pm. More information>>>

The Village collects loose leaves in the fall months, weather permitting. Collection began this year on Monday, October 19, and runs through November 13.
Residents can also bring bagged leaves to the yard waste dropâoff site at any time. The site is located at 201 E. Fairy Chasm Road. Crews will begin collection in the northeast section of the Village and work through he Village each week. On average, crews are able to work their way through the Village once per week.
Heavy leaf fall, coupled with inclement weather can slow crews. We ask for your patience during these times. If you have any questions, please call 351â8811.
Loose Leaf Guidelines
The Village will host a Public Informational Meeting for Storm Water Management on Wednesday, October 28th, 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Bayside Village Hall, 9075 N. Regent Rd, Bayside, WI. The Village of Bayside has been selected as the recipient of the 2009 “Good Government” award. The Wisconsin Good Government Award program is sponsored by Foth, a Wisconsin-based consulting engineering firm, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Counties Association, the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and the Wisconsin Towns Association.
The 2009 award is the result of a collective effort of implementing the five long term strategic initiatives adopted by the Village Board of Trustees. The award recognizes Bayside’s innovation, creativity, and doing more with fewer resources to implement the five long term strategic initiatives. Specifically referenced were the Village communication and performance measurement programs.
The Fall newsletter is now available online. Paper copies are being printed and will be mailed and in homes in the coming week.
Bayside residents may notice a significant change when entering the Village through the Brown Deer Road corridor. Community & Utility Services crews have been working the past two weeks to install a cobblestone barrier between Brown Deer Road and the pedestrian sidewalk located on the south side of the road. After three futile years of attempting to grow grass, the decision was made to improve the look of the terrace, while still providing a safe barrier for those utilizing the sidewalk.
The change to the terrace is in response to several issues, including the Village allocating several labor hours to repair the ruts created by erratic drivers. The lack of grass, increasing rutting and weeds, and the need to keep pedestrians safe have led to the improvements.
The cost of the project is offset by the state connecting highway aids the Village receives from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. After Brown Deer Road was reconstructed in 2006, the Village accepted maintenance responsibilities with the caveat of receiving State funding.

The Milwaukee Business Journal has selected the Village of Bayside as its first ever Green Community of the Year. The Village was selected for its progressive efforts in undertaking several core “Green” initiatives to enhance the energy efficiency of its facilities and operations, promote environmental stewardship in the community, and provide leadership in enhancing our environmental friendliness. The six areas of focus include: (1) building ; (2) village operational and procedures; (3) infrastructure; (4) community; (5) regulation; (6) communication. The specific initiatives include:
· The Village established a performance benchmark of reducing total Village building and facility energy consumption by 10 percent. Consumption was reduced by 17.1 percent from the previous year.
· Increased recycling collections by 100 tons between April through October 2008 with single stream recycling.
· Diverted 520 tons of yard waste from the landfill. Yard waste was stored and ground to create a high quality mulch material, which was then used on Village grounds and provided to residents.
· Implemented several performance measurement changes which reduced the amount of time spent collecting materials by 2,122 hours since 2006, reducing additional vehicle emissions by that same amount of hours.
· Revised snow and ice procedures to reduce in salt application by 25 percent.
· Designated as a first time Tree City USA.
· Held first Spring clean up days, a two day event to bring community together to clean yards, ditches, streets, collect yard waste, recycle materials, computer and electronic recycling program to reduce landfill impacts. Over 100 computers and electronic equipment were recycled in the two day event.
· Formed Greenscape Bayside Committee, whose mission is to “to educate and encourage a sustainable relationship with the environment while promoting an aesthetically pleasing community”.
· Bayside has been featured by MMSD as a model program for other municipalities, as the Village purchases the rain barrels and then sells and delivers them to residents. 71 rain barrels have been sold to date, plus installation at Village facilities.
· Established tree planting program and tree farm for future tree planting.
· Enhanced environmental corridor collection site, now providing residents the opportunity to recycle used oil and dispose of yard waste in addition to single stream recycling drop off site.
· Distribute Bayside Buzz via email weekly as way to keep community up-to-date in lieu of printing publications and mailing/sending deliveries to 1,625 homes.
The Village will receive its designation during an awards breakfast by the Milwaukee Business Journal at the Pfister Hotel on June 19.
