A couple of weeks ago, it looked like the Obama administration was not taking charge of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. But recently, President Obama came out and said that he was in charge and the buck stops with him. At first, I found that hard to believe. But after some reflection and looking at the facts, I can now see that the Obama administration was in charge from day one. As they say, the proof is in the pudding. Let's take a look at that pudding.
The oil has been gushing nonstop since at least April 20. There is then chaos and confusion as to how to stop it fast and efficiently. This is certainly the thumbprint of the Obama administration and its agility. Every effort to control this spill has failed. Every idea has been wrong. Sounds like the federal government to me.
The attempt to control this disaster is not unlike the Obama administration's approach to economic recovery. Again, every action has failed and every idea has been wrong. Oil keeps gushing and it has all been wasted. Just like the recovery act, the money keeps gushing and it has all been wasted. And the most conclusive part is that nothing has worked. Nothing has worked in either case.
But, because the federal government has been working on this, it must be a success. Just think of all that gas that has not come from this crude oil. It has not been burned in SUVs and polluting our atmosphere. A lot of that gas would have been wasted anyway. Just think of how many NASCAR races that would have burned it all. Rich people with their fancy Harley-Davidson motorcycles would have been cruising around the country aimlessly polluting the air burning gas that they would have bought at BP. Yes, some birds have died, but the science has shown that these birds were e-mailed in carbon dioxide into the air which would have contributed to global warming. It's a small price to pay to help control and stop the globe from warming and the oceans from rising.
Yes, the fishing industry has been ruined in Louisiana and well for Mexico. But let's not think of the higher prices that it is going to cost us all. We all guilty of spending too much money at Red Lobster? If you believe in capitalism you probably have. The good news is that all of these fishermen can now partake in the generous social programs being expanded by the federal government. The evil rich people can pay higher taxes to support these poor folks. After all, it's not their fault.
Whether it's ending the recession were ending this oil spill, the Obama administration is in or their head. They have no ideas and are producing no results. Their diversionary tactics of bringing criminal charges against BP would seem like a good idea if the oil would stop gushing from the ocean floor. A halfhearted effort at placing blame seems to be more important than getting actual results for what needs to be done by this administration. President Obama has taken responsibility for this, so they own this now. And the results speak for themselves.
