The Wisconsin Department of Transportation continues preparations for the reconstruction of the Brown Deer Road bridge over Interstate-43. The Brown Deer Road bridge construction is expected to begin Monday, February 8 and continue through December.
Motorists should expect significant traffic backups throughout the construction zone, at the intersection of Brown Deer Road and Port Washington Road, as well as east of the intersection on Brown Deer Road west bound. If possible, motorists should modify travel patterns to avoid this area. Motorists are encouraged to use the Port Washington Road on/off ramps or Lake Drive as alternate routes. The Bayside Police Department will be assisting with traffic control.
Temporary stop lights are currently being installed on the east and west side of the bridge at the on/off ramps. Work will begin with the demolition of the west bound bridge. One lane in each direction on Brown Deer Road will remain open during the project. Over the course of the project there will be total freeway closures for demolition of the old bridge. Additional traffic restrictions will occur 9 am to 2 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 pm to 5 am Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 12 pm Fridays, and 10 pm to 8 am on weekends. There should be minimal disruption to I-43 traffic except for the total closures and installation of barriers north and south of the bridge which may cause some lane narrowing or spot closures.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will also be have both the Good Hope and Green Tree bridges over I-43 under construction as well. Questions regarding the construction on the Brown Deer Road bridge and interchange project can be sent to the Field Project Manager, Frank Rivera.
