Bayside residents may notice a significant change when entering the Village through the Brown Deer Road corridor. Community & Utility Services crews have been working the past two weeks to install a cobblestone barrier between Brown Deer Road and the pedestrian sidewalk located on the south side of the road. After three futile years of attempting to grow grass, the decision was made to improve the look of the terrace, while still providing a safe barrier for those utilizing the sidewalk.
The change to the terrace is in response to several issues, including the Village allocating several labor hours to repair the ruts created by erratic drivers. The lack of grass, increasing rutting and weeds, and the need to keep pedestrians safe have led to the improvements.
The cost of the project is offset by the state connecting highway aids the Village receives from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. After Brown Deer Road was reconstructed in 2006, the Village accepted maintenance responsibilities with the caveat of receiving State funding.
