The Village of Bayside has been selected by the Public Policy Forum to be the recipient of the 2009 Award for Effective Use of Technology/Managing for Results for our Communications and Strategic Initiatives programs. The nonpartisan Public Policy Forum focuses its policy research on a broad range of issues affecting southeastern Wisconsin, the state and the nation. The Forum serves the public, businesses, government and other interested constituencies by spotlighting trends, defining emerging issues and facilitating productive interaction among local governments and the private sector to promote sound and innovative policy solutions.
The 2009 award is the result of a collective effort of implementing the five long term strategic initiatives adopted by the Village Board of Trustees. The award combines the Village’s communication’s efforts, such as the weekly Bayside Buzz, web site, newsletter, Citizen Request Manager, and other communications, with the Village’s comprehensive performance measurement program. As an example of Village’s performance measurement program, in 2003, the Department of Public Works spent 6,928.75 hours on collection services. By comparison, in 2008, the DPW with implementation of the several operational initiatives reduced the hours by 31% to 4818.8, while providing the same, if not greater, level of service. This equates into an annual collection labor savings of $70,645.75.
Public Policy President Rob Henken stated, “This award is the highest honor that the Public Policy Forum gives to government officials and projects that demonstrate through leadership and innovation that government works for its citizens and taxpayers. We are proud to honor the Village of Bayside for its accomplishments.”
The Village will be honored at the Forum’s Salute to Local Government on June 18.
