This Saturday, April 17 from 9am to noon, volunteers both young and old will take part in the "2010 Great American Cleanup" starting with an official kickoff by Keep Milwaukee Beautiful at Washington Park, 1859 N. 40th (also starting at 9am.) Cleanup supplies will be provided and participants should bring their own gloves. Last year over 48,000 volunteers worked to clean and beautify local communities in the greater Milwaukee area. Cleanups will also take place at Bradford Beach, Cudahy, Falk, Sheridan, Warnimont, Grant, Humboldt, Lake, South Shore, and Whitnall Parks. Milwaukee County Parks is offering terrific specials for foursomes at its Gold and Silver level golf courses. All foursomes pay the following special rates weekends and holidays after 2pm: 9 holes and a cart for $60 or 18 holes and a cart for $100. This offer is available for a limited time with a maximum of 2 carts per foursome. Visit countyparks.com for details on this and other golf promos.

The Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens invites everyone to attend an afternoon of activities on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9th from 10am to 3pm. Children can participate in making a seed-mat to plant at home, the creation of a paper butterfly greeting card, and putting together a paper flower pin. Back by popular demand, "BirdFest" will take place at the Wehr Nature Center, 9701 W. College Ave., in Franklin on Sunday, May 2 from 1pm to 4pm. Meet live birds, play the bird beak game, and learn from experts on how to turn your backyard into a bird haven. Bird educators will be available to teach about a wide range of bird topics. Admission is $1 per person. For a small fee kids can make a bird feeder or dissect an owl pellet. For info call the Wehr Nature Center at (414) 425-8550.
